An Dong
An Dong (Secret Movement) occurs when a static line in a hexagram is clashed by the Day Branch while possessing high strength. It signifies hidden events or unexpected, fast-acting changes behind the scenes.
What is An Dong?
In Liuyao astrology, normal "moving lines" are generated by the coin toss and are visible ("Ming Dong"). "An Dong" (Secret Movement), however, is hidden. It occurs when a static line (one that didn't change) has strong foundational energy in the current month (Flourishing or Assisting), but gets directly clashed (Chong) by the Day Branch. Imagine a strong resting horse getting whipped—it suddenly bolts forward with great hidden force. This is An Dong.
Interpretation & Usage
An Dong is one of the more nuanced parameters in advanced hexagram reading. It represents variables that may be outside the querent's awareness yet are unfolding in the background. If the Offspring line has Secret Movement, someone might be quietly helping solve problems. If the Authority/Ghost line has it, the reader would watch for hidden conflict, pressure, or sudden sabotage. Events associated with Secret Movement are traditionally read as fast and unexpected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q.What is the difference between An Dong and Yue Po (Month Rupture)?
Both involve a "clash" (Chong). When the Month Branch clashes with a line, it indicates a macro-level denial, tearing the line apart—called Yue Po (Month Rupture). When the Day Branch clashes with a strong line, it activates it (An Dong). If the line is already extremely weak, the day clash destroys it, which is called "Day Rupture".
