Taiji & Yin-Yang
The foundational worldview matrix of all Chinese metaphysics. "In the system of changes there is Taiji, which generates the Two Modes." It describes the quantum fissure of the universe from a singularity into binary opposition.
What is Taiji & Yin-Yang?
[Taiji] represents the absolute chaotic primordial state of the universe before the differentiation of time, space, and matter (analogous to the pre-Big Bang singularity point). Once kinetic displacement occurs, it undergoes binary fission into the [Two Modes]: Yang (kinetic, luminous, expanding, coded as an unbroken solid line ⚊) and Yin (static, dark, contracting, coded as a broken line ⚋).
Interpretation & Usage
The core algorithm of the I Ching: Reality is not constructed of inert matter, but runs on an oscillating web of opposed yet complementary dual forces. Binary logic permeates all dimensions: Day/Night, Male/Female, and even binary code 1/0 are fundamentally manifestations of Yin-Yang. The law dictates that absolute extreme Yang mathematically gestates Yin—this is the principle of "things turning into their opposites upon reaching the extreme".
Frequently Asked Questions
Q.Are Yin and Yang perpetually locked in hostile conflict?
Negative. While Western metaphysical constructs rely on absolute Good vs Evil terminal conflict, Eastern Yin-Yang operates on the premise of "A lone Yin cannot birth, a solitary Yang cannot grow." In the Taiji symbol, the dark fish houses a white eye, and vice versa. They are a recursively inclusive, mutually dependent dynamic equilibrium. One physically cannot exist without the other.
