Day Master

The Day Master (Ri Zhu) is the central coordinate in a Bazi chart. It represents the "Self" and the foundational element of the chart owner. Other elements are interpreted in relation to it.

What is Day Master?

A Bazi (Four Pillars of Destiny) chart is constructed from the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches of the Year, Month, Day, and Hour of birth (8 characters total). The Heavenly Stem of the Day pillar is specifically called the "Day Master". Because there are 10 Heavenly Stems (Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui), this categorizes all individuals into 10 foundational Day Master archetypes.

Interpretation & Usage

The Day Master helps describe your core personality archetype (e.g., Bing Fire is passionate like the sun; Gui Water is adaptable like morning dew). More importantly, it is the anchor point for deriving the "Ten Gods" (Wealth, Power, Resource, Companion, Output). The overall strength of the Day Master (Strong/Weak chart) is used to assess how a person may handle stress, authority, resources, and wealth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Does a "Weak Day Master" mean a bad destiny?

That is a common misconception. Strong vs. Weak is better understood as different operating modes. A Strong Day Master often handles pressure independently, while a Weak Day Master may rely more on resources, timing, and collaboration. The key is the full chart structure and whether the decade pillars bring the needed "Useful Gods" (supportive elements).
