Decade Luck & Annual Pillars

The natal chart fixes the birth pillars; decade and annual pillars add time layers. Decade Luck supplies a longer-period setting and the annual pillar a particular year’s conditions. They do not replace the natal chart. One year can receive different Ten God labels and branch interactions in different charts.

Decade Luck proceeds forward or backward from the Month Pillar, with ten years per luck pillar. A common Zi Ping method sets direction from Year Stem polarity and sex, then calculates the starting age from the interval to the relevant solar term. The Annual Pillar changes yearly, commonly at Li Chun in solar-term charts.

From Bing-Yin, a forward sequence begins Ding-Mao then Wu-Chen; reverse begins Yi-Chou then Jia-Zi. The calculated starting age determines calendar dates. Keep natal, decade and annual layers separate before checking the added stems and branches against the natal chart.

Constructed example: natal Jia with a You branch, Ren-Shen decade luck and a Ding-Mao year. Label Ren Indirect Resource and Ding Hurting Officer, then identify Mao–You clash. Ding–Ren also combines as stems; transformation requires separate conditions. These are distinct analytical layers.

A decade transition identifies when the active pillar changes. Compare which natal relationships gain support, encounter control or acquire a new connection, instead of treating the transition date itself as a cause of a real event.
